Natural Resources - Conservation

RESOURCES

Any type of material and form of energy that we use in our life for making it easy and comfortable can be called as a resource. However, it is necessary that they said material(s) or energy is technologically available and economically viable.

NATURAL RESOURCE

  • Resources that are drawn from nature and used without much modification are called natural resources
  • The air we breathe, the water in our rivers and lakes, the soils, minerals are all natural resources.
  • Many of these resources are free gifts of nature and can be used directly.

CONSERVATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES

The Earth’s natural resources include air, water, soil, minerals, fuels, plants, and animals. Conservation is the practice of caring for these resources so all living things can benefit from them now and in the future.

WATER CONSERVATION

Water conservation includes all the policies, strategies and activities to sustainably manage the natural resource of fresh water, to protect the hydrosphere, and to meet the current and future human demand

SOIL CONSERVATION

  • Soil erosion is a partial or total removal of top layer of soil from the land.
  • Deforestation, overgrazing, ploughing are some of the factors that aggravate the problem of soil erosion.
  • Conservation efforts include aforestation of barren land, plugging of gullies, covering the sloping land with continuous contour trenches, diverting the overflows and reducing the velocity of running water.

MINERAL CONSERVATION

  • Minerals are the non-renewable resources and hence they are exhaustible.
  • These resources, used as raw materials in different industries, are considered as the back bone of economy of a region.
  • Most of the traditional energy resources such as coal, mineral oil etc. are in great demand due to ever increasing population, changing lifestyle and resulting energy requirements.
  • Hence, it is necessary to use them in most judicious manner

FOREST CONSERVATION

Conservation of forests is a multiple activity.
Various plans have been implemented to save forests from destruction.
Forest Conservation includes proper management, safety, care of plants and extension of forest area.
Excessive exploitation of forest wealth is prohibited.
Forests are necessary to prevent soil erosion, provide clean and healthy air, maintain ecological balance, retain the level of ground water table, protect wild animals, preserve forest products etc.
